FORTUNE IN A CUP
Fortune telling and Turkish coffee have been going hand in hand ever since it was created. Here is a fun guide to this traditional custom you can enjoy with your friends. Just when you realize that last sip of Turkish coffee will fill your mouth with grounds, swirl your cup three times to distribute the grounds up onto the sides. Now with a swift motion, flip the cup onto the saucer toward yourself and wait for a couple minutes for the grounds to drip down and form patterns. You should never tell your own fortune; someone else must read your cup and interpret the symbols for you. The lower half of the cup tells of the past, where the top half foretells forty days into the future. Since all Turkish coffee cups are white inside, white patterns are always “good” symbols, the grounds themselves are considered “bad”. Symbols can be grouped together for a prediction.
